Every year, March 8 is celebrated as International Women’s Day. Women exhibit strength, power, and resilience that knows no bounds. Whether occupying roles as educators, homemakers, economists, engineers, or trailblazers, women consistently contribute to making the world a better place through their unwavering strength, resolve, and convictions. It’s extremely important to celebrate International Women’s Day to honour and appreciate the different achievements that women have accomplished around the world, including successes in society, economy, politics, and culture.
It’s also a time to remember those who continue to go unheard and are prevented from reaching their full potential, as basic rights like health and education are still not recognised for some women around the world. Purple, green, and white are the colours of International Women’s Day. Purple signifies justice, dignity, and being loyal to the cause. Green symbolizes hope and white represents purity.
The theme for International Women’s Day 2024 is “Inspire inclusion,” emphasizing the crucial role that investment in women plays in driving positive change and advancement in society. When we inspire others to understand and value women’s inclusion, we forge a better world. And when women themselves are inspired to be included, there’s a sense of belonging, relevance, and empowerment. Collectively, let’s forge a more inclusive world for women. This is also in line with the UN theme for 2024, “Invest in women: Accelerate progress.” This theme emphasizes the undeniable truth that “when we invest in women, we invest in the prosperity of society as a whole.”
Despite significant progress, gender inequality remains a pressing issue across the globe. Women still face significant challenges in areas like equal pay, access to education and healthcare, and representation in leadership positions. International Women’s Day serves as a crucial reminder that the fight for gender equality is far from over.
Investing in women means providing them with equal opportunities in education, employment, and leadership roles. It means ensuring access to resources and support systems that enable women to thrive and reach their full potential. When women are empowered, they become catalysts for positive change, driving economic growth, social progress, and sustainable development.
Investing in women isn’t just a good thing to do; it’s also a smart choice. Research shows that companies and communities that treat women equally do better than those that don’t. When we support women, we also help drive new ideas, work better, and stay competitive.
Remember, supporting women isn’t a one-time thing. It’s something we have to keep doing. We need to make plans and keep working to break down the barriers that stop women from doing well. We should make sure that women can speak up, their ideas are valued, and their rights are respected. Let’s work together to make sure every woman and girl can do well and leave their mark on the world.
This Women’s Day, let us pledge to break barriers and dismantle stereotypes that hinder women’s progress. Let us advocate for policies and initiatives that promote gender equality and create inclusive environments where women can succeed. By investing in women, we not only unlock their potential but also unlock the potential of entire communities and nations.
This International Women’s Day 2024, let us come together and aim to make this world a better place by promoting gender equality and giving every woman a chance to reach her full potential.
When women feel like they belong and are important, they feel stronger and more empowered.
“Empowered women empower women.”
