Key Background:
Integrated telco Maxis of Malaysia has partnered with University Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) to develop 5G solutions that can support a healthy lifestyle for everyone, including better healthcare and education. The announcement was made on January 4, 2025, when Maxis is ready to partner with UTAR for its high status in higher education.
The partnership explores and creates commercially viable 5G applications to revolutionize the healthcare and educational sectors. Health care can involve telemedicine, telesurgery, and real-time health monitoring. The successful implementation of 5G technology could make healthcare more effective and reach more people in remote areas.
In education, there is more development of 5G-enabled tools which will improve the learning experience. This will involve the applications of AR that enable an immersive learning environment for the student to get interactive lectures integrating multimedia into real-life settings. All these innovations make learning dynamic and more accessible as a step forward towards making classrooms fully technology-equipped. Among them, other areas are being explored together with cybersecurity and green technology in addition to the smart campus initiative. It is through Maxis’ solid infrastructure and the research capabilities at UTAR that both will co-create solutions to contribute toward technological advancement and societal progress.
UTAR President, Ir. Prof. Dr. Ewe Hong Tat said the partnership is a demonstration of the university’s commitment to research and innovation in key sectors. “We can co-create transformative solutions for technological advancements and societal progress through leveraging the combined strengths of academia and industry,” he said.
Prateek Pashine, Chief Enterprise Business Officer at Maxis, was also optimistic, highlighting healthcare and education as two critical sectors that will be impacted by future-ready ideas. Maxis is looking forward to enabling 5G solutions that make healthcare and education more personalized, dynamic, and accessible. These initiatives build from previous Maxis efforts in the form of high-speed internet services for the UTAR campuses at Sungai Long and Kampar, which show continued company effort towards accelerating 5G technologies usage in Malaysia.
