Proposal and Adoption

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi proposed the idea for International Yoga Day during his address at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on September 27, 2014. 

First Celebration

The inaugural International Yoga Day was celebrated on June 21, 2015.
