Key Background:
BAE Systems has been awarded a five-year, $251 million contract to provide comprehensive support for the U.S. Navy’s AEGIS Combat System, as outlined in a recent press release. The contract, granted in November 2024, will focus on delivering vital systems engineering, testing and evaluation, logistics, system acquisitions, and cybersecurity services through the AEGIS Technical Representative (AEGIS TECHREP) organization.
The contract positions BAE Systems to offer critical technical expertise aimed at optimizing the configuration of complex combat systems for not only the U.S. Navy but also the Missile Defense Agency and the Foreign Military Sales program. These services are intended to enhance the operational efficiency of AEGIS-equipped surface ships across the entire fleet.
Lisa Hand, Vice President and General Manager of BAE Systems’ Integrated Defense Solutions business, commented on the long-standing partnership with the U.S. Navy, stating, “For over 40 years, BAE Systems personnel have worked closely with Sailors and civilians to enhance and modernize the fleet of AEGIS-equipped surface ships. Our team brings extensive expertise in AEGIS and Ship Self-Defense Combat Systems, coupled with the innovation and technical proficiency necessary to ensure the U.S. Navy has the safe and effective combat capabilities required to accomplish its mission.”
In addition to its core services, BAE Systems has played a pivotal role in advancing the digital transformation strategy of the Program Executive Office Integrated Warfare Systems. The company has developed and deployed advanced digital analytic tools to provide near real-time assessments of mission impacts stemming from software deficiencies. This capability will inform more targeted investment decisions to improve the Navy’s combat effectiveness. The contract will support various U.S. Navy facilities, including those located in Mt. Laurel, New Jersey; Bath, Maine; and Pascagoula, Mississippi.
