A new tool driven by generative AI was presented on Wednesday by CommentSold, an e-commerce software business that provides web and video capabilities to online shops. This tool can filter livestreamed footage and create brief product explainer videos that sellers can share on their social media, website, and app.
The “AI ClipHero” tool is used to create little snippets from livestreamed sales events, which can last for hours. CommentSold’s new tool saves retailers time by automatically recognizing the most interesting sections of the livestream so that customers who missed the event can obtain a brief summary of the products. Customers can save the footage to revisit and search for the relevant bits. Additionally, the technology generates captions via speech recognition.
CommentSold CEO Gautam Goswami said, “Shoppable ‘explainer’ videos are the most powerful video commerce medium right now, with TikTok and Instagram becoming the primary way Gen Z discovers, learns about products, and purchases products. However, creating shoppable videos requires significant production time.”
Although there has always been AI-enabled clipping software, few companies have developed AI-enabled solutions, particularly for live commerce. However, a number of businesses (including Powder, Eklipse, and others) have launched comparable tools that let content producers record the best parts of game streams.
“Companies like TikTok and Twitch have been trying to create AI that can create shoppable videos from livestream events. CommentSold is now the first provider to launch a commercially available AI which learns from millions of hours of livestreams in CommentSold’s library to identify and create product explainer videos from livestream selling events,” Goswami said.
CommentSold just released PopClips, an AI ClipHero feature that enables retailers to tag products in a banner at the bottom of each clip, directing viewers to the product page and increasing sales. The company also offers systems to automate inventories, billing, shipping, and other tasks, in addition to tools for creating personalized websites and mobile apps.
The CommentSold company was launched in 2017 to help small and mid-cap businesses with live shopping and e-commerce experiences. Overall, 7,000 businesses rely on CommentSold. The company claims that it has helped sell more than 180 million items, with a lifetime gross merchandise value (GMV) of over $4.4 billion, up from $3.8 billion in 2023.
