The entrepreneurial landscape in India has undergone a remarkable transformation over the past decade. From the struggles of obtaining licenses from local and central bodies to the ease of acquiring permits online, the journey of Kerala Naturals, a small-scale direct-to-consumer (D2C) brand, is a testament to this evolution.
In 2012, Kerala Naturals was established in a small village, facing the challenges of bureaucratic hurdles in obtaining licenses. The process was cumbersome, time-consuming, and often discouraging for budding entrepreneurs. However, fast forward to 2024, and the scenario has drastically changed. The government has streamlined the licensing process, allowing entrepreneurs to apply for permits from the comfort of their homes. This shift has significantly reduced the barriers to entry, making it an opportune time to start a business in India.
Kerala Naturals, which began with just one computer and printer, has grown exponentially over the years. With a focus on online sales of natural products, the brand has garnered over 200,000 satisfied customers across 120+ countries. This remarkable growth has been made possible by leveraging technology and the power of the internet.
In 2012, Kerala Naturals ventured into Indian and international online marketplaces, showcasing its products to a global audience. This move not only expanded its reach but also laid the foundation for its global presence. The brand’s commitment to quality and natural products has resonated with customers worldwide, driving its success.
One of the key aspects of Kerala Naturals’ journey has been its focus on women empowerment. In a village where opportunities for women were limited, the brand has provided employment to local women, empowering them economically. Today, the entire team of Kerala Naturals comprises women, showcasing the transformative impact of entrepreneurship on gender equality.
The success of Kerala Naturals is a testament to the evolving entrepreneurial ecosystem in India. The government’s initiatives to promote micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) have played a crucial role in fostering a conducive environment for startups. The ease of doing business, coupled with technological advancements, has enabled entrepreneurs to scale their businesses rapidly.
As we look towards the future, the entrepreneurial landscape in India holds immense promise. With a supportive government, a growing digital infrastructure, and a burgeoning consumer market, the opportunities for startups are endless. Kerala Naturals’ journey from a small village to a global brand is a testament to the potential of Indian entrepreneurship.
